Chemical Peel – Everything you need to know
- Why you can trust the Yuki Clinic
What Is A Chemical Peel?
The treatment is a non-invasive procedure that removes the layers of dead skin cells using certain skin chemical acids. In particular, Light chemical peels use more gentle forms of acids such as low-percentage glycolic acid or mandelic acid. This type of peel provides gentle treatment for fine lines, acne, chronic dry skin, and mainly targets pigmentation. The formulation of the chemical solution used in a light chemical peel depends on the needs of the individual client.
How Does A Chemical Peel Work?
When applied to targeted areas of the face, the AHA (Alpha Hydroxy Acid) peel solution works by desquamating the superficial layers of skin, revealing a new, smooth layer of skin. The action of the chemical solution stimulates the production of elastin and collagen- essential components of healthy, youthful skin. Firstly the skin would feel mildly stinging, the next day it would feel tight and firm, the following day there would be peeling until the new complexion is revealed.
What Results Does A Chemical Peel Give?
This treatment improves skin texture and hyperpigmentation and reduces fine lines and wrinkles. The skin that grows back is smoother and the cells are healthier and plumper. The complexion is improved increasing radiance and even skin tone. With a light peel, you may need to undergo the procedure more than once to get the desired results as a light acid would be used. The results are subtle but increase with repeated treatments.
Is A Chemical Peel Safe?
Yes, it is safe. The practitioner needs to use a low-level alpha-hydroxy acid such as mandelic acid, to begin with. Also, it’s a fantastic treatment to remove stubborn brown marks, hyperpigmentation and discolouration. It can even help lighten melasma. What’s great about this treatment is it can remove deeper layers of years worth of photoaging pigmentation.
Are Light Chemical Peels Worth It?
They are! As long as they are performed safely and at professional-low grade acids. It is a ‘booster’ treatment to thoroughly remove stubborn pigmentation and scarring- which many of us struggle with. When undergoing a resurfacing treatment, especially like this, it is vital to use sunscreen post-treatment and every day. A chemical peel removes the superficial layer of the skin, and we cant expose our fresh new cells to the damaging UV rays- it’ll destroy the skin and rapidly increase pigmentation.
